Preventative Care: Check-ups & Dental Hygiene
Routine dental visits with us will ensure your optimal dental health. The visit consists of a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums and an extra- and intraoral cancer screening by Dr. Truvan, followed by a teeth cleaning. X-rays may be taken to assist in the detection of cavities.
A tooth colored material will be used to replace loss of natural tooth structure due to decay.
A root canal may be recommended due to trauma or when decay reaches the nerve of the tooth. The process involves removing the infected nerve tissue, cleaning of the canals, and restoring the tooth back to form and function.
This treatment option may be necessary when a tooth has sustained significant loss of tooth structure due to decay and is not functionally restorable. The extracted site may then be replaced with a bridge or substituted with an implant.
Our office offers various treatment options (listed below) that will address all your dental cosmetic needs to help you rediscover your “True Smile”:
Porcelain veneers are an effective and non-invasive option that will conservatively give you a natural and beautiful smile. A veneer is a porcelain shell that is bonded to the tooth surface. Veneers are used to restore chipped or malformed teeth, rejuvenate discolored teeth, or lengthened worn down teeth. In some cases, veneers can be used in place of orthodontic treatment.
Bonding is a chair-side procedure used to repair a small chip or mask discolored areas on the tooth’s surface with a tooth-colored resin material. Bonding can restore form and enhance the appearance of your teeth but has its limitations. Dental bonding can also be used to protect exposed root surfaces and reduce to root sensitivity.
Porcelain Crowns and Bridges
When a tooth has irreversibly sustained extensive loss of tooth structure due to trauma or decay, a porcelain crown is recommended to restore form and proper function. A porcelain bridge is a common dental replacement for tooth loss. The bridge is supported by teeth adjacent to the missing tooth and used to restore function and enhance your smile. Please consult with Dr. Truvan for the appropriate treatment.
Implant is the most effective and conservative solution for a loss tooth. It is the only true “tooth substitute” treatment. Unlike a bridge, the implant directly fuses to the bone and is restored with a crown. With implants, unnecessary reduction of healthy tooth structure can be avoided and existing bone can be maintained.
TMD or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder is a term describing problems affecting the jaw joint due to the misalignment of teeth, skeletal discrepancy, grinding and clenching, and stress. Problems include muscular pain, wear and tear in the bone and cartilage, or even arthritis in the joint. In most cases, a neuromuscular orthotic mouth appliance fabricated by the dentist can significantly alleviate painful symptoms associated with TMD.
